So apparently my husband & I are on the same page, of loving up on Ada today.

Well, duh… what’s not to love? :)

Hey Dan, my wife is trying to convince me to get a boxer puppy. I'm inclined to say no, because we already have a cranky, old chihuahua who isn't particularly fond of other dogs in HER house. If you have any insights for or against this idea, or about young boxers in general, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Chihuahuas are the anti-Boxer. I can’t imagine a breed more opposite than Chihuahua, save for maybe a Bassett Hound.

I’ll say this… Boxers are amazing with kids. Amazing. They have such incredible spirits, so playful and kind, forgiving, they just want to be around you and playing with you all the time, especially puppies.

I don’t know much about Chihuahuas other than I hate ‘em (sorry!), largely due to their temperament and incessant yip yapping. I have no idea how they’d get along with other dogs, but if she doesn’t like playtime, sharing, cuddling, toys, or dog farts, then a Boxer probably ain’t a good match (seriously, Boxer flatulence is completely out of control horrible).

If your current animal is indeed “cranky” and “old,” it may be best to wait, especially in light of you already suspecting she’s not fond of other dogs. I mean, just about any new dog brought into that situation isn’t going to be thrilled, but a new Boxer is going to want to play! play! play! and jump! and cuddle and nudge and smooch and bounce all over… fair warning.

I don’t see myself getting any breed for the rest of my life other than a Boxer. Truly remarkable animals, so friendly, such love… when the time is right for you guys you should absolutely consider it. :)

Best of luck!
